OVER TWENTY YEARS AGO

There was no real civic organization to turn the deep concern Greenville citizens had about their schools into action. In 1985, with $5,000 and a passion for change, a group of community, business, and school leaders, led by businessman Hayne Hipp, created The Alliance for Quality Education (AFQE) - to ensure our community would have an enduring voice for an excellent education for our children. The first act was to support classroom teachers by funding innovative grants to express community support for public education.

TODAY

Today, with a community of supporters and a proven track record of result oriented projects, The Alliance for Quality Education (AFQE) is a powerful force for great schools. An independent voice to support, strengthen, and improve public education for every child, every teacher, and every school in Greenville County. Our goals include:

  • Investing in Teachers - Supporting excellent teaching and providing the ideas and venture capital to create great schools for all children.
  • Mobilizing the Community - Marshaling the talent and resources of parents, citizens and businesses throughout the community to strengthen every school in every neighborhood.
  • Building a Strong Foundation - Leading the charge to make our schools successful by pioneering new ways to accelerate student achievement.
